Guy Carpenter Symposium

Guy Carpenter is pleased to once again host the Baden-Baden Reinsurance Symposium.

Moderated by Guy Carpenter's Director of Reinsurance Market Management, Chris Klein, the Symposium will see industry experts debating the topic Does Domicile Matter?

This year's high profile panel of speakers will explore the relative merits of re/insurance hubs in Bermuda, London and Europe, the drivers behind the development of new centres such as Zurich and the advantages of the global multi-line model - among other major market issues impacting the renewals season.

Registration will be open from 3.30pm, while the Symposium itself will run from 4pm until 6pm. Cocktails will be served afterwards between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Chris Klein
Director of Reinsurance Market Management, Guy Carpenter
responsible for the development of Guy Carpenter's global reinsurance placement strategy, building a focused platform for strategic market relations so that Guy Carpenter's clients' reinsurance needs are best coordinated with the available global reinsurance capacity. Previously, Chris was Global Head of Business Intelligence, which he established on joining the firm. Before Joining Guy Carpenter in 2007, he was head of Counterparty Risk at Benfield. From 1996 to 1999, he was a founding director of the insurance division at the IBCA (later Fitch) credit rating agency. Chris retired from the British army in the rank of major in 1994 after 15 years of service including active duty on operations. He is a trustee of the Lloyd's Patriotic Fund.

Martin Albers
Member of Group Management Board Head of Europe Division, Swiss Re

Martin Albers was appointed to the Executive Board in January 2002 and Head of Risk Solutions in June 2002. He became Head of Client Markets Europe in September 2005. Mr Albers, a Swiss citizen born in 1960, graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich in 1985 with a master's degree in engineering, and in 1991 earned an MBA from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, Chicago.
Mr Albers joined Swiss Re as head of Product Controlling in 1994, after having worked for over three years with Boston Consulting Group. In 1996 he became head of property and casualty business in Canada and, in 1999, in the UK. Mr Albers was appointed to the Executive Board in January 2002. In June 2002, he became Head of Risk Solutions in the Financial Services Business Group. He assumed his current position as Head of Client Markets Europe in September 2005.

Victor Peignet
Chief Executive Officer, SCOR Global P&C

Victor Peignet, a Marine Engineer and graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (ENSTA), joined the Facultative Department of SCOR in 1984 from the offshore oil industry. From 1984 to 2001, he held various positions in the underwriting of Energy and Marine risks at SCOR, as underwriter and as Branch Director. He led the Group corporate facultative division (Business Solutions) since it was created in 2000, as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and as Chief Executive Officer from April 2004. In July 2005, Victor Peignet was appointed Head of the Group Property & Casualty operations worldwide. He is currently CEO of SCOR Global P&C and Member of SCOR Group COMEX.

John R. Berger
Vice Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer, Alterra Reinsurance

John R. Berger, Vice Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer, Alterra Reinsurance. John was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Harbor Point Ltd since its inception in December 2005. In August 1998 he was the founder of Chubb Re, a subsidiary of the Chubb Corporation, and was the Chief Executive Officer and President until December 2005. He was one of the founders of F&G Re in November 1983 and he held various positions at F&G Re, a subsidiary of USF&G, including Chief Executive Officer and President. Following the acquisition of USF&G by St. Paul in April 1998 until August 1998, he was President of the North American Treaty operation of St. Paul Re and President of F&G Re. Prior to 1983, he was an underwriter at General Re and Prudential Reinsurance. Mr. Berger has an AB in Economics from Princeton University, an MBA from Rutgers University, and holds the CPCU designation.

Tom Bolt
Director, Performance Management, Lloyd's

Tom Bolt joined Lloyd's in September 2009 as Director, Performance Management previously having been Managing Director of Marlborough Managing Agency, a Lloyd's Managing Agent. In his role as Director, Performance Management, Mr Bolt is responsible for working with individual Lloyd's businesses to improve the commercial performance of the market. This includes monitoring each syndicate's performance against its business plan and ensuring that the underwriting guidelines are adhered to. Mr Bolt has extensive experience in international insurance and reinsurance across the UK, US and Europe, having spent 25 years at the Berkshire Hathaway Group. This included senior roles in Berkshire Hathaway's Reinsurance Division and President of some of its insurance subsidiaries. He also helped form Bankers Trust Insurance Derivatives Business and a related group of insurance and reinsurance companies. A US national, Tom has a B.A and M.M (M.B.A) from Northwestern University, lives in London and has four children.
